Student Member Information

Steps to Verify Student Status for Student Membership

 

To qualify for student membership, you must send verification of full-time student status and your TxABA account username or email associated with your account to member@txaba.org. Documents should be on a letterhead with a valid signature OR be from a professor's university email to member@txaba.org, and must show that you are currently enrolled. If you do not have a TxABA Account, please create one before emailing member@txaba.org. The following forms are acceptable:

 

  • 1) A letter or email from a professor who knows the student
  • 2) A copy of the student's unofficial transcript

 

Please allow up to 7 business days for your student status to be verified. Once your student status has been verified, you will be able to purchase the $30 student membership on the register page. For more information regarding membership, please visit here.

TxABA Executive Council Student Representative

 

The Student Representative serves a 2-year term on the Executive Council and leads the TxABA Student Committee. The first year as the non-voting Junior Student Representative and Secretary of the Student Committee. The second year as the voting Senior Student Representative and Chair of the Student Committee. Student Representatives are required to be Texas residents, be Student Members of TxABA, and have at least one year remaining in their master's or Ph.D. program at the time of joining council. The call for nominations generally happens around November each year with voting taking place in February and the council term starting May 1st. TxABA Student Committee

 

The purpose of the student committee is to promote engagement, diversity opportunities, and provide resources among TxABA student members. Additionally, the Student Committee shall work with the Student Representative to ensure the perspective of students across the entirety of the state are represented on the council so as to further the growth of the next generation of behavior analysts. TxABA Student Member Poster Competition

 

The deadline to submit your poster is February 9, 2026. Individuals will be notified of poster acceptance/nonacceptance by February 20, 2026.

 

Student members attending the TxABA Annual Conference in-person are eligible to compete in the student poster competition during the annual TxABA poster competition. At least 2 judges will be assigned to each student member's poster in the competition and use a scoring sheet during the student's presentation and question answering. The top two highest scores will win the poster competition and be awarded a $200 check at the conference. The 2026 TxABA Annual Poster Session and Social will be held 5:30 pm - 9:00 pm in the Garden Terrace of the Hyatt Regency Riverwalk. Poster presentations will be 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm with the winners of the poster competition announced around 7:45 pm.

TxABA Student Member Scholarships Information

 

The deadline to apply for both scholarships is November 15, 2025. Applicants will be notified by December 15, 2025.

James L. Kopp Memorial Scholarship

 

The James L. Kopp Memorial Scholarship was created to honor the first president of TxABA, who passed away on November 19, 2010. During his 40-year career in Texas, his most prominent contributions to behavior analysis were as a teacher and mentor at the Department of Psychology, University of Texas at Arlington.

 

The purpose of this award is to defray education-related costs or costs associated with attending the ABAI annual conference. Two applicants will be chosen from the submissions to receive a $1,000 scholarship each.

 

The TxABA Student Member must be listed as presenting author in a symposium, paper session, or poster at ABAI, must be a current Student Member of TxABA, and must be registered for the annual TxABA Conference the same year as the ABAI Conference they are presenting at to be eligible.

 

Student Members who are interested in applying for a Kopp Scholarship should prepare to submit by November 15, 2025:

 

  • 1) TxABA account username or email associated with your TxABA account, only applications from current TxABA student members will be sent to the Grants & Funding Committee
  • 2) Full submission of research submitted to ABAI (e.g., title, abstract, graphs submitted to ABAI, etc.)
  • 3) Proof of submission to ABAI (i.e., email confirmation from ABAI)
  • 4) A reference list
  • 5) A current curriculum vitae

 

Kopp Scholarships will be awarded contingent upon ABAI acceptance. Student Members who receive the Kopp Scholarship must submit proof of acceptance to the ABAI annual conference and any updated documents (e.g., graphs, abstract, title, etc.) by February 1, 2026 to txaba@txaba.org.

 

 

TxABA Student Member Conference Registration Scholarship

 

This scholarship is to provide financial support to full-time student members who would like to attend the annual TxABA conference but are unable to pay conference registration fees due to financial hardship. Recipients of the TxABA Student Scholarship will receive free student registration to the 2026 TxABA Annual Conference.

 

Student Members who are interested in applying for a TxABA Annual Conference Registration Scholarship should prepare to submit by November 15, 2025:

 

  • 1) TxABA account username or email associated with your TxABA account, only applications from current TxABA student members will be sent to the Grants & Funding Committee
  • 2) Your name, university, academic program, and name of the faculty writing a letter
  • 3) A personal statement that includes a description of the need due to financial hardship no longer than 1 page, single-spaced, 12-point
  • 4) A letter of support for financial need from a faculty at the student's university
